Stainless steel flanges are commonly used pipeline components with outstanding performance. However, many people don't know much about stainless steel flanges. So, what exactly is a stainless steel flange? What are the advantages of stainless steel flanges? And how should they be maintained on a daily basis? I’m sure you’re all very curious about these questions—so let’s explore stainless steel flanges together!

 Stainless steel flange

Flanges, also known as flange plates or flange discs, are components used to connect pipe ends to each other and to valves. Both sides of a flange are connected to pipe ends. Stainless steel flanges are highly versatile and widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical processing, food manufacturing, construction, shipbuilding, papermaking, and pharmaceuticals. The reason stainless steel flanges have such broad applications is their outstanding performance characteristics.

The raw material metal used in stainless steel flanges is stainless steel, which inherently possesses excellent performance characteristics. It is resistant to corrosion, pitting, rusting, and wear. Stainless steel is one of the commonly used materials in architectural metal construction. Thanks to its outstanding corrosion resistance, it can maintain the structural integrity of components over long periods. Chromium-containing stainless steel flanges offer both mechanical strength and high tensile ductility, and their parts are easy to fabricate, thus meeting the needs of architects and structural designers.

Metals react with oxygen in the atmosphere, forming an oxide film on their surfaces. Typically, the iron oxide formed from carbon steel continues to oxidize further. As rust expands, it eventually creates voids. Stainless steel flanges offer advantages such as corrosion resistance, rust prevention, and resistance to wear. Consequently, they exhibit outstanding performance and stand out among many types of flanges.

Stainless steel flanges also have another academic term—“flange”—and they are pipeline components used to connect two pipe ends at their intersecting points.

When welding stainless steel flanges, it is necessary to install flange covers to prevent corrosion. During welding, the current should not be too high, and rapid cooling is required. When manufacturing stainless steel flanges, the most important thing we should do is to add appropriate stabilizing elements to the stainless steel flange. Such elements can, to a certain extent, greatly stabilize the manufacturing process.
